Lessons from the Tao Te Ching

In Chapter 4, The Tao Te Ching continues by describing the characteristics of the Tao. The Tao is described as the source of all things.

You can read more about the Tao Te Ching here.

Chapter 4
The Tao is empty,
When utilized, it is not filled up.
So deep! It seems to be the source of all things.

  It blunts the sharpness,
  Unravels the knots,
  Dims the glare,
  Mixes the dusts.

So indistinct! It seems to exist.
I do not know whose offspring it is.
Its image is the predecessor of the Emperor.

Lao Tzu
Translation by Derik Lin and source from www.Taoism.net.

Qigong Smile Meditation

As I stated previously, the smile meditation is a Taoist Qigong practice that goes back thousands of years. You don't have to be a Taoist to get the health benefits from practicing this meditation. During the smile meditation, you will learn to use the energy of the smile through visualization and feeling to bring relaxation, energy, joy and awareness to your body. You don't need any prior Qigong experience to learn this practice. The accompanying eBook will give you an overview of Qigong basics and then it will present step-by-step instructions of the included meditations, especially the smile meditation. And you can practice the meditations with the included guided meditation audio program. Click here to read more about the home study kit.

      Words of Wisdom

"A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

- Albert Einstein

Qigong Tips

Stress and tension restrict the flow of Qi in the body. When you feel stress or tension starting, take a 5 minute break and focus on your breathing. Breathe deeply into your abdomen. It will relax you and improve the Qi flow.

The Healing Mind and The Busy Mind

The conscious mind is the mind that is aware of our beingness, our sensory perceptions and our gut feelings (intuition). That is, we are aware of our state of being and can think and act based on sensory inputs (five senses) and our intuition. The subconscious mind is the mind of automation and control in the body. It regulates bodily functions automatically, like blood pressure, hormones, body temperature and many, many other functions without conscious thoughts.

Being of Service

More severe weather has devastated regions in the US and other countries. Most recently, Typhoon Haiyan has caused major destruction to the Philippines. Millions of people have been displaced and are without shelter, food, water, and much more. Things most of us take for granted. Aid is arriving, but they will need lots of help to rebuild their lives. The rebuilding process is long and challenging for families, businesses and entire cities. Those affected depend on the generosity of others to help them during these trying times. Together we can make a difference, one person at a time. Being of service to others in need lets them know that they are not alone. It lets them know we care. Not only does our service touch people's lives in a positive way, but it is also healing for ourselves as well. There are so many ways to be of service, like donating money, time, clothing, etc. One way to be of service is by opening your heart and your wallet and donating to the "American Red Cross". They are on the ground providing support around the world. There is so much need. Please donate today. You can make a difference.
